Fantasy Baseball Strategy Guide and News for 4 April 2009 (Issue 13)

April 4, 2009

Jordan Schafer is the starting center fielder for the Braves. He was suspended while in the minors for drug use (the performance enhancing kind), and he has never played at AAA.
Emilio Bonifacio will bat leadoff, which means Cameron Maybin will bat eighth.
With Scott Baker on the disabled list, R.A. Dickey will be the fifth starter. This is the guy who resurrected his career by learning a knuckleball.
Ryan Sweeney will bat leadoff for the A’s.
Jeremy Affeldt will not close for the Giants after all. Brian Wilson is fine.

Fantasy Baseball Strategy Guide and News for 3 April 2009 (Issue 12)

April 3, 2009

With Julio Lugo and Mark Kotsay injured, expect their at-bats to go to Chris Carter and Nick Green. In situations like these, a benchwarmer that gets hot can suddenly find a starting job, no matter who it is, so keep an eye on the box scores while this gets sorted out.
With Rich Hill injured, Mark Hendrickson will be the fifth starter for the Orioles, but he should only be considered in AL-only leagues.
With Phil Dumatrait injured, Jeff Karstens will start for the Pirates.
With Brian Wilson injured, Jeremy Affeldt will start the season at closer for the Giants.
Anibal Sanchez will be the fourth starter for the Marlins. Andrew Miller will be the fifth starter but should only considered in NL-only leagues.
Khalil Greene may be in the middle of the batting order this season.
With Troy Glaus injured, David Freese will play at third for the Cardinals.
With Joe Mauer injured, Mike Redmond will start at catcher for the Twins.
Huston Street has won the closer battle in Colorado over Manny Corpas.
Josh Outman will be the No. 5 starter in Oakland, not Sean Gallagher, but should only be used in AL-only leagues.

Fantasy Baseball Strategy Guide and News for 2 April 2009 (Issue 11)

April 2, 2009

Shane Loux has made the starting rotation, but he is pretty old for a rookie after 12 years in the minors, so don’t expect much.
Austin Kearns should get the starting job over Elijah Dukes, but the play is to pass over both, and as soon as Kearns gets hurt, pick up Dukes, who will then start for the rest of the year.
Horacio Ramirez will be a fifth starter, but he is not fantasy-worthy. Same story with Sidney Ponson, except he will be a No. 4. And although it is not clear, it really does not matter what slot Kris Benson takes, although he will be starting too.
Fernando Rodney will close for the Tigers.
